When Life Doesn’t Make Sense

Preacher:
Passage: Job 1:6-12 The Message
Service Type:

For the next few weeks, we will wrestle with the question: “What do we do when life doesn’t make sense?” It seems like every day there is something in my life or life in general that doesn’t make sense to me. We are going to look at this question through the lens of the story of Job. But I want to caution that this series is not about why bad things happen to good people. That’s what comes to mind when Job is the topic.

Job has often been lifted as an example of faith and endurance when life doesn’t make sense. But I think Job isn’t being lifted as the example to follow when life doesn’t make sense. I think Job’s story is a cautionary tale, a warning about a failed world view that doesn’t help make sense of life when life doesn’t make sense. I think Job’s story wants us to see and know a merciful, gracious God who wants his children to discover the right way to make sense of this life.

The intention is for each message in this series to build on each other as we look at the story of Job and try to make sense of life when it doesn’t make sense. This series will include our Remembrance Sunday on November 2.
