Kevin shared a reflection on the biblical narrative of Nehemiah and Ezra found in Nehemiah chapters 7 and 8. The message focused on the rebuilding of Jerusalem and the spiritual restoration of its people. He explained that after the wall was completed, Nehemiah focused on the people already in the city by conducting a registration to affirm their identity, heritage, and belonging. Kevin highlighted the role of Ezra, a scribe who had previously taught the law to the Jews, as the one who read the scriptures to the assembled people. He described how the people responded with deep focus, worship, and tears of repentance upon recognizing their sins, but were then encouraged to celebrate God’s mercy and share their blessings with the needy. Kevin concluded by discussing the “joy of the Lord” as a strength derived from a restored relationship with God, contrasting it with superficial joy and emphasizing the importance of knowing one’s identity and purpose in God.
