Remnant Fear, Faithful God
Kevin delivered a sermon focused on the dangers of internal conflict within the community of God’s people, using the story of Nehemiah and the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s wall as a primary example. He explained that while external opposition often stems from fear and can be used by Satan to deter God’s will, it frequently strengthens the faith of believers and serves as a light to others. In contrast, Kevin described internal dissension as far more destructive, comparing it to a flu that saps the strength of the church. He detailed how the Jews in Jerusalem faced internal strife when the wealthy took advantage of the poor through unfair business dealings and usury, driven by their own fears of scarcity. Kevin highlighted Nehemiah’s response: he pondered the situation, called a general assembly to confront the issue, and reminded the people to walk in the fear of God rather than acting on their own fears. He noted that Nehemiah held himself accountable alongside the people, leading to a resolution where the ill-gotten gains were returned and the community returned to their work. Kevin concluded by urging the modern church to address fears through prayer and wisdom rather than allowing them to cause division, so that the body of Christ can remain a faithful light to the world.
