What’s Love Got to Do with Holding Grudges?
This is week 8 of our summer worship series focusing on 1 Corinthians 13. Kevin delivered a sermon on the theme of keeping no record of wrongs and letting go of grudges. He used a story of a 10-year-old and her dad about a coconut donut as a metaphor for how people often keep records of others’ wrongs in “closets” similar to how people organize items in their homes. Kevin identified four types of closets people maintain: records of others’ wrongs, personal wrongdoings (the “closet of shame”), records of things God didn’t do, and the perception of what God thinks about them. He emphasized that God doesn’t keep records of wrongs but rather fills His closet with love, kindness, and delight, contrasting with human tendencies toward control and perfection. Kevin concluded by outlining steps for cleaning out these metaphorical closets: becoming aware of what’s stored there, starting with personal closets, finding accountability partners, and accepting God’s unwavering love without judgment.
