We are continuing our worship series, “When Life Doesn’t Make Sense.” We are considering the reality of life that everyone experiences times when life doesn’t make sense. We are looking at that reality through the lens of Job’s story. Job’s entire life no longer made sense. He had lost all his possessions, all his children, and his physical health.

Initially, Job approaches this senseless life with the thinking, “God gives and God takes. God’s name be ever blessed.” He gets advice from those closest to him. His wife sees no hope and says, “Curse God and die.” His friends offer comfort at first, but they are focused on explaining Job’s situation. The only possible explanation for Job’s situation is that Job has some sin in his life that he refuses to acknowledge and confess. Job adamantinely denies that he is refusing to acknowledge some sin. In fact, he so sure that he wants an audience with God, so he can plead his case. Unfortunately for Job, he can’t seem to find God anywhere.

This week, we considering what happens when God decides to show up.
