For the month of September, we are reflecting on the mission statement of the church through the lens of scripture. Today, we are going to do that through the words of wise King Solomon.

King Solomon is recognized in scripture as the wisest man who ever lived. Certainly, Solomon’s wisdom was a gift bestowed by God. But Solomon’s wisdom wasn’t 160 IQ or simply knowing stuff because of divine insight. In Solomon, we find someone who tested his theories and made mistakes. But most importantly, Solomon sought to learn and become wiser from each theory he tested and each mistake he made.

The book of Ecclesiastes is kind of like Solomon’s journal. It is where he wrote about his theories on the meaning and purpose of life, the tests he undertook to prove his theories, and the lessons he learned from the successes and failures of those tests. In this message, we will look at four of Solomon’s “theories,” the results of testing those theories, and the conclusions he found.
